A Restaurant Management Career

Restaurant managers have very important jobs as they are responsible for making sure that a restaurant or other food service facility is running smoothly. They have to organize duties among the different departments, such as kitchen, dining room, and banquet operations. Restaurant managers ultimately are needed to ensure that their customers are happy with their dining experience.

What They Do:

Restaurant managers oversee the day-to-day operations of the restaurant. They oversee front of the house staff and kitchen staff, and are responsible for hiring, firing, training and supervision of the staff. Restaurant managers meet with food suppliers, and beverage distributors to decide where they will order their meat, vegetables, wine, and supplies. On a daily basis, these managers place orders with vendors and suppliers, and schedule the delivery of food, beverages and linen service. They are responsible for receiving the items and making sure they are what was ordered. The also arrange services such as maintenance and waste removal.

At the end of the day, the most important job for a restaurant manager is customer service. Customers expect professional, friendly service executed in a timely manner.
