From the basic data entry jobs where it’s just a matter of typing or entering data, to the more sophisticated admin roles, such as running a team of admin staff and making company decisions, they all fall into the same job category.
It is a very popular route to go for most people and probably one of the most wanted positions too. As it is so popular, employers advertising the role will get an overload of applications for. Candidates that apply to these roles start from school leavers to the more experienced, but it is usually the experienced that gets shortlisted.
Quite understandably, employers would rather seek someone who can do the job with minimal training and unfortunately people who’ve just left school and never had a job before will require lots more training and time to mould them into the role, which, if it’s a small organisation, may not be able to afford that.
Many administration roles would require some sort of data entry, filing, typing and processing information. Usually with most jobs, if done well, a lot more tasks will be given to the employee as well as more training and promotion. With most admin roles, it is quite common that it’s a matter of just paper based work or computer work, with minimal interaction with anyone on the outside. But with more and more jobs created within the service sector, there are customer service aspects incorporated into the role, whether is calling the customer about something regarding their personal data, to answering the odd telephone calls if you’re in a small office.
Admin can also be in a form of sales administration, customer service administration and general administration. Sales administration will involve processing sales data including recording sales targets from individual sales staff and ensuring whatever sales orders are processed correctly etc. Customer Service administration roles may involve answering customer service e-mails, letters or sending e-mails or letters out to them regarding the service they are using etc.
Admin jobs vary from company to company, but if the company is in the same industry it may have some similar duties. Although some admin roles can be easy, when applying, the experienced ones will always benefit.
